Check
your credit before and get chance to fix it
Making sure your credit score is as high as it can possibly
be gives you your best shot at your lowest possible rate.
Yet incorrect, incomplete or outdated information appearing
on a creidt report is not all that uncommon. That makes it
all the more important as a first step in the home buying
process, in which a higher interest rate can well be the difference
between affording a home or not. Because mistakes aren't corrected
overnight, experts recommend checking your credit as early
as possible. The fix. For starters, realize that a makeover
can't alter an ugly yet accurate creidit report. "Rather
than locking yourself into a mortgage that is way too high,
it's better to cool your jets and slow yourself down, make
a plan and save, save, save," says Sweet. "Many
times, a big down payment can offset some problems in your
credit history." That means not only paying on time but
also thinking hard before shopping for new credit cards or
opening loans during that time period, Sweet says. "Most
likely a couple of inquiries won't make a difference, but
if you have other risk indicators, it could be the straw that
means a higher mortgage rate ."

to Fix rating.
Tell the consumer reporting company, in writing, what information
you think is inaccurate. Include copies (NOT originals) of
documents that support your position. In addition to providing
your complete name and address, your letter should clearly
identify each item in your report you dispute, state the facts
and explain why you dispute the information, and request that
it be removed or credti corrected. You may want to enclose
a copy of your report with the items in question circled.
Your crdit letter may look something like the one on page
6. Send your letter by certified mail, return receipt
requested, so you can document what the consumer reporting
company received. Keep copies of your dispute letter and enclosures.
Just because you have a poor credit report doesnt mean
you wont be able to get creidit fixed. Creditors set
their own credit-granting standards and not all of them look
at your credit history the same way. Some may look only at
more recent years to evaluate you for credit, and they may
grant creidt if your bill-paying history has improved cerdit.
It may be worthwhile to contact creditors informally to discuss
their credit standards.
